November Multi-tool of the Month

Check out the different multi tools at Grommet's Knife and Carry

How prepared you are on the job is often dictated by how many tools you brought with you that are relevant to the problem – thankfully Leatherman has figured out how to put an arsenal of tools in your pocket with the Charge Plus series. Boasting a whopping nineteen tools, the standard Charge Plus allows you to take an entire toolbox with you in a 4” package. Made from 420HC Stainless Steel, 154CM Stainless Steel, and 6061-T6 Hard-Anodized Aluminum the Charge Plus weighs in at 8.3 oz. The moderate weight of this multi-tool feels balanced, sturdy, and comfortable to carry, hitting all the marks that make this tool useful and pleasant to use as an EDC. Every feature on the Charge Series multi-tools locks into place with the exception of the pliers, allowing every implement to withstand the various pressures of use without disengaging. To put away the tools on the Charge Plus Series there is a manual switch on the side of the tool that allows you to move the tools out of the locked position with ease. On top of all the utility packed into the Charge Plus Series tools, Leatherman has gone above and beyond with design to allow every feature to be operable with one hand. So any tricky moment where you need one hand to keep the world from falling apart you know that with the Charge Plus you don’t have to call for backup.

The Charge Plus is already at the pinnacle of pocket-sized utility, but if you are looking for something a little more exceptional, the Charge Plus TTi is an outstanding upgrade with a full titanium body that’s very popular at many online knife stores. Both the Charge Plus and the Charge Plus TTi feature almost the same toolset but the TTi features a CPM-S30V blade, a decent upgrade in the areas of edge retention and corrosion resistance from the 154CM blade of the standard Plus model meant for someone who is looking to get serious use out of the plain edge blade. Poth the Plus and the Plus TTi have needle nose pliers, regular pliers, premium replaceable wire cutters, an electrical crimper, a wire stripper, a 154CM knife, a 420HC serrated knife, a saw, spring-action scissors, a cutting hook, a ruler (8 in | 19 cm), can opener, bottle opener,  a wood/metal file/diamond-coated file, a large bit driver, a small bit driver, and a medium screwdriver.

As with all Leatherman products, each feature is high quality, and with a such a robust roster of tools there are too many positives to highlight quickly, but even a few notable ones give insight as to the utility that these multi tools can provide. For the hunting type, the serrated knife features a gut hook that resembles the hook from the Benchmade Triage Family, undoubtedly also useful for cutting straps and opening boxes. For the survivalists the saw features teeth that allow the cutting action to happen both forward and backwards and coupled with the plain edge and serrated blade you’ll always have the right sharp thing at hand. The bit drivers are interchangeable, and Leatherman has kindly included a set of six extra bits to make sure you have the right tool for any screw.

For all the electricians the Charge Plus Series pliers use premium replaceable wire cutters, so if they get chewed up from intense use you can put a fresh set on and extend the lifespan of this already incredibly rugged tool. The diamond-coated file even allows you to sharpen other tools while on the go. These are just a few of the many genius ideas Leatherman has implemented into these multi-tools, it is clear there is something for everyone and every situation on the Charge Plus or the Charge Plus TTI. Either of these multi-tools are highly capable, and both would make great additions to your everyday carry kit. Be sure to check out all of the multi-tools available at our knife store!
